3d shatter image disappears

Hi;

I added 3d shatter to an image (PNG) in After Effects at the point I want the shatter to begin and the image disappears. I loaded a preset called quickburst, but nothing changed. Unless I delete the effect, the image is gone instead of shattering… help?

Is it that this effect can only be used from the beginning of a clip?

Actually, it’s that the filter is set to auto-animate by default so the full image will only appear at the first frame of the effect. You can disable the auto-animation and switch to manual mode though (via the Automate pop-up at the top of the filter) and then animate the Scatter parameter with keyframes to have full control over the shatter animation.
