AE Shape Layers from Mocha tracked masks

I’m using the Mocha AE that comes bundled with After Effects - version 23.3.0

I make real estate videos. They always include drone footage where I outline the building or site being featured. I use the x-spline tool to track the outline of my target area and then - once back in After Effects ‘Create an AE Mask’ and generate a stroke. This is fine as far as it goes, but I want to be able to use the flexibility of a ‘shape layer’ - this way I have many options for how my outline will look. My problem is - I cannot find a way to use my Mocha created mask to create a shape layer. Can anyone help ?

Hi
You can create a shape layer, add a path element, and then copy paste the mask data to the path.
Here’s how to do that

Is that what you’re looking for?

Hi Elizabeth, yes that looks like what I need, but I can’t seem to make it work.

I can’t quite follow what you’re doing around 21 to 26 seconds. Is this the copy and paste ? I’m missing exactly what I should copy and where exactly I should paste it. Sorry, I’m probably being dumb.

Correct, I hit Ctrl+C to copy Mask Path first, and then Ctrl+V to paste that into Shape’s path

Hope that helps
Elizabeth

Thank you, that’s brilliant. I was still struggling for a while until I deleted the mask after copying the mask path. I’ve been battling with for this months, so thank you again.

Glad that helped!

thank you both
