Boris FX Editor

I noticed while trying to do the Boris Continuum tutorial package, that during the CC lesson, the FX Editor will not display the RED Raw Footage with color presets applied within the FX editor window. i.e. not allowing A/B of the image with the unaltered image etc. Within premiere itself everything seems ok - I can toggle the CC effect off and on with scopes etc. But this isn’t doable within the FX editor. Also the Historgram doesn’t show up within the FX editor while using this RED raw footage from the lesson. Any ideas? I have a Mac 2017 running Ventura/ plenty of RAM/ and like I said, the premiere behavior seems ok though this 6K footage has to be knocked down to 1/4 in the viewer. Thanks for any ideas!

Hi,

Very interesting alright - I wonder if the system GPU simply doesn’t have enough memory to display the 6k RED Raw image. Would you mind sharing your system specs? Would it be possible for you to send me a frame from that clip so that I can try it locally. Please feel free to send that to me privately if you prefer.

Thanks,
Peter.

Thanks Peter!

I’m attaching frame grabs showing what I see in Premiere (“corpse bride” CC effect) and what I see in the FX Editor when trying to A/B it with the original footage. The “B” side (with effect) doesn’t seem to be coming through. I tried attaching a single frame export of the raw RED file (made from REDCINE-X pointing to the R3D clip in the tutorial pkg). But the “R3D” file type doesn’t seem approved to upload in this GUI.

Thanks for any clues you may come up with! (I have like 50GB of RAM assigned to Adobe products (premiere is only thing running) of my 64GB available RAM. [Also note histogram isn’t working in FX Editor]

Thanks Jim. If you zip the file it should come across but interestingly, one of our beta testers encountered a similar issue just today, which is related to the pixel dimensions of the source. We’ll investigate and find a solution.

Thanks for reporting this!

Cheers,
Peter.

Ah cool - Yeah I’d be interested in hearing if you guys figure it out.

Oh and zip of course! Ok attaching a frame from the RED source here.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for sending the zip Jim - I’ll use that to test the fix once that’s in place. It might be something that we can include in the maintenance release, which should be available in a week or so.

Cheers,
Peter.

Hello Peter!
Was there any progress on this oddity being fixed by a new release? I’ve checked for updates but haven’t seen any available.
I noticed this was just today happening again even on a 1920x1080 source when trying to add a BCC Lens Flare 3D to a clip then trying to open that in the FX browser to pick an alt type of flare - i.e. I see a list of flares but they are keyed over black and not my source - even though “over background” is selected in the FX browser.

I’m running the project off of an external SSD drive with thunderbolt and I have 50GB of ram allocated to premiere within settings.

Thanks for any insight you may have!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for reaching back out about this issue. I can confirm that the issue has indeed been fixed on both Win and Mac OS.

The fix will be made available in the upcoming maintenance release within the next week or so.

Cheers,
Peter.

Awesome- I’ll keep checking for updates!
Jim

@jrmilt33

Hi Jim,

Just to let you know that we’ve released the official maintenance builds with the fix.

Cheers,
Peter.

Thanks Peter -
I noticed this issue persists when trying to view the native RED footage in the FX Editor interface (i.e. I can never see the raw/original when comparing to a lut). I tried it with some 4K footage from the same Boris lesson project and that worked ok.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for letting me know - very unexpected behavior. I just tried it again with the footage that you sent and it’s operating as expected on my Mac from within the After Effects host. Can you please try importing the clip into a new After Effects project and checking to see if it works? I’ve attached a screenshot to show it working on my system.

Thanks,
Peter.

Thanks Peter-

I’m seeing my issue in Premiere not AE; in case that matters as far as the update goes? I can try it in AE today just to see.

Thx

Hi Jim,

I just tried PP and the before/after option in the FX Editor is also working as expected on my system. Screenshot attached.

Thanks,
Peter.

Awesome - it looks like it’s working now; its possible my update yesterday didn’t take so I re-updated to 16.5 and restarted. Looks like it works!
Thanks for the help

Super - thanks for letting me know, Jim.

Cheers,
Peter.
