I have a permanent license for optics. Everything was working fine. Around the one year mark I went in and it asked if I wanted to active a trial or if I had and activation code. I found my code and reentered it. All of my settings and favorites were gone. Also I was not getting live thumbnails. I went into the preference and Live Thumbnails was already checked, I tried to uncheck it and exited Optics. I went back in and checked Live thumbnails exited and came back in. For some reason I cannot get a Live Thumbnail view. Any suggestions?
Here’s a couple of things you can try:
- Update the graphics driver on your system
- Reset the Optics Preferences

my drivers are up to date. to reset the optics preferences the last line says: " Go to the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BorisFX\ and delete the appropriate Optics product folder." I have no idea what that means. What would the appropriate optics product folder look like and what would it say?
It depends on what version you have installed. For instance, Optics 2021 or Optics 2022.
You can then follow the instructions in the knowledgebase article and delete the Optics 2022 entry.
- Close Optics if it is running.
- From the Windows Start Menu, type regedit.
- When regedit appears in the list above, click on it.
- Go to the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BorisFX\ and delete the Optics 2022 product folder
Drivers are up to date and I deleted the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BorisFX\ and delete the Optics 2022 product folder. Nothing helped!!
Can you provide a screenshot of the Optics interface with an image loaded?
Not all thumbnails are live even if the preference is set. Particle Illusion takes too long to render all of the thumbnails, so they are not available live. If you select the Film Lab category, for instance, you should see live thumbnails.
