Color/Detail layer clone artifacts

I get strange artifacts / big pixelation when I clone Details or Color channels.
It’s not compression, its ProRes4444 footage, denoised.
Any advice? Why this happens, looks like a bug to me?

Welcome @MrM Can you send a download link to the project/media that displays the issue so I can test on my machine?

Figured out how to replicate this, here is 1 frame with the project, let me know

Thanks. This was helpful. We are taking a look.

Hi, any updates on this?

It has something to do with the size of the image and are investigating the cause. The goal is to fix this as part of the 2022.5 point release we are currently working on.

I’ve came across this once again in 2022.5.5 on a different project. :face_with_head_bandage:
Resolution is standard Arri 4608x3164
This still isn’t fixed right?

No, not yet. For now, you can use the Detail Separation Using Nodes workflow and as long as you view and edit the Paint nodes while painting, you will not see the tiling artifacts.

When using this workflow from your link, can I see/select the combined layer (Grain Composite in this example) and paint on it but only Paint Detail node to be affected?

In my case its really hard to see the details for painting inside Paint Detail node so I would like to paint in “Normal” mode and just affect Detail layer.

Btw.
What’s the best color space to use for frequency separation to work its best? Should we prepare footage in Log, or 709 or it doesn’t matter? (I’m using AE plugin)

Select the Edit icon on the Paint Detail node and make sure the monitor icon stays enabled on the Grain Composite node.

I don’t have an answer for you on what colorspace may be better for the detail separation. However, you can adjust what detail level is used in the Extract Detail node.
