Hello everyone!
I’m running into an issue with the PI plugin from Continuum version 16.0.3.417 2023. My current OS is Mac Ventura 13.4.1 on an M1 Mac Mini 16 GB.
Whenever I load an image or video into Davinci and attempt to open PI through the Effects tab or load a preset, I get this error message:
Failed to launch window. Please make sure the timeline indicator is placed on the same clip to which the effect is applied and try again.
Afterwards, the timeline and preview window will freeze in place upon hitting play. Eventually, this causes Davinci to crash and I’m not sure what’s causing it. My only troubleshooting so far is deleting all of Davinci’s cache storage.
Thank you for taking time to read this.
Can you be more specific about what you do to make this error show?
For instance, is it when you click the “Launch PI 2023” button? Or when you click the “FX Browser” button? or whatever.
Thanks!
Alan.
Hi Alan!
In my experience, the program freezes if I load up a custom preset and then attempt to “Launch PI 2023.”
However, I just discovered if I convert the image to a compound clip, it doesn’t freeze up. Is there a reason why this solves the issue? Thanks again!
This could be a timecode issue, where the timecode being reported to PI isn’t correct, or PI doesn’t know how to handle it, or maybe the starting frame is a very large number and PI is trying to calculate many, many frames that it doesn’t really need…
But when you convert to a compound clip, it now has a fresh timecode and PI doesn’t try to do anything weird.
Just a theory (that I should investigate it sounds like).
Alan.
