Error when trying to export rendered mattes

Hi,
I have Adobe CS5 AE installed as a trial.
I also have Mocha For AE installed as a trial.
I have tracked & rotoscoped 2 shapes.
I wanted to export the ‘Shape’ data to AE.
But I got an error:
“After Effects error: invalid clipboard format ? effect mocha shape could not be found (line 16, near column 2).”
I then read somewhere, that if I have AE CS5 as a trial,
and have mocha for AE as trial - it won’t work.
(cause I need a ‘purchased’ version of AE).
I am not sure if this is true or not (can someone tell ?)
ANYWAY,
I installed Mocha Pro as a trial.
opened the project with the mattes.
I understand there is a way I can render the mattes as an image sequence,
and then I would be able to import it into AE.
So, not sure what I should actually do in order to render my 2 mattes
to an image sequence - I tried to render the shapes.
Not sure what it does or how to do it.
I want to the ‘Insert’ tab, went to ‘Output’ tab in it,
then checked the ‘Render Matte Clip’,
left ‘Layer Clip’ as ‘None’ (don’t know what this is),
then chose a new ‘Output clip’,
and pressed ‘Render’.
I then went to ‘File’ ==> ‘Export Rendered Shapes’,
chose the ‘All Visible’ mattes, chose the directory,
chose the file format (PNG) and pressed ‘OK’.
I then got this error message:
‘Failed to convert revert image to required format & type’.
I have searched a lot on the net for this error,
with no luck.
I have tried choosing only the selected matte,
tried saving to a different file format.
What am I doing wrong ?
Is there a different way to ‘Render’ the mattes ?
(I think what I did, going to the ‘Insert’ tab, is not the way to do so).
I would deeply appreciate any help !!
P.S.
Am I correct to assume that Mocha Shape will not work with AE CS5 that is in trial mode ?

Hi Johnny,
You are correct: The shape plugin is not included in the trial of AE CS5.
If you have activated a trial of mocha Pro however it should also contain a trial licence for shape, so you can download the shape plugin from our site and test it:

To render shapes out of Pro you just need to go to the Export Rendered Shapes and render. There’s no need to go to the insert tab as you’ve already created the roto shapes.

First of all - thanks for the reply.
Two questions:
I have activated the trial of ‘Mocha PRO’.
Where do I find the ‘trial license for shape’ ?
Is it a plugin ? Is it an executable I need to run or to copy somewhere ?
I looked at the download site, and only saw the ‘Shape Plugin’ for Windows x86, and I have a 64-bit system. So what exactly should I do ?
Regarding the second thing you said, after preparing masks - I went to the ‘Export Rendered Shapes’ and I got an error message saying :‘The are no rendered shapes in the clip’ or something of the sort.
So I understood that I need to somehow render the shapes.
That’s why I looked for a place in the ‘Mocha PRO’ app to render the shapes,
and that’s how I ended up at the ‘Insert’ tab.
So again, what was I doing wrong ? :frowning:
Thank you very much for your help !

The licence for the shape plugin should be contained within the trial licence of pro: It’s one licence file so there’s no need to get another licence.
You can download the x86 version of shape and it will still work on the 64 bit platform.
I would have to see the file to see why you’re getting that error. The shapes themselves are generated when you draw the splines. Can you see the mattes in the drop down list in the top left of the viewer?
—End Quote—
I cannot find a license file at the ‘Mocha PRO’ folder.
Here is an image grab of the ‘Mocha PRO’ folder:
http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/933/toupload.jpg
Here is my new project in ‘Mocha PRO’.
This project is from an image sequence, because the video is in ‘HuffYuv’ format, and Mocha does not seem to support this video format.
I have 2 mattes and 3 tracks.

When I do ‘File’ ==> ‘Export Rendered Shapes…’
This is the error message I get:
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9571/toupload3.jpg
So that method doesn’t work.
If I try to do ‘Export Shape Data…’ and choose only the visible layers,
and then choose ‘Copy to Clipboard’
I then do ‘Alt+Tab’ to go to AE (trial version) and
I immediatly get this error message (before I can even press Ctrl+V):
http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/7705/toupload4.jpg
So … again - sorry for the trouble,
I just can’t seem to export the shape data from Mocha (Mocha Pro or Mocha for AE)…
Can’t locate any license file that comes with Mocha PRO,
and can’t export the ‘rendered’ shapes either.
Both solutions don’t seem to work for me …
Thanks.

Have you downloaded and installed the shape plugin to the plugin folder in After Effects and restarted AE? The error is related to not having the plugin, rather than not having the licence.
The licence for mocha is not kept in the program directory. It will be here:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Imagineer Systems Ltd\Licensing
Vista/7: C:\ProgramData\Imagineer Systems Ltd\Licensing
—End Quote—
I guess the plugin is te ‘aex’ file, right ?
Where do I copy it to ?
‘support\plug-ins’ folder ?
Or mmaybe
‘support\plug-ins\effects’ folder ?
There are 4 subfolders in the ‘plug-ins’ folder of AE CS5
And regarding the ‘export rendered shapes’ problem ?

If there isn’t a folder called “/Plug-ins/Effects/Imagineer” you can create one. Either way, the plugin will be activated when you copy it into the effects folder.
The Export Rendered Shapes error is a strange one. It suggests the actual mattes are not being rendered. Please send me the file to look at:

Try drawing a new shape, selecting it and rendering “selected” only. Do you get the same error?

How do I ‘render the selected only’ ?
I’m not sure what is the way to render a shape.

—Quote (Originally by martinb)—
You render selected by clicking on that layer, going to “Export Rendered Shapes” and clicking “Selected”, which is chosen by default when you open the render dialogue.
Did the shape plugin install work?
—End Quote—
The shape plugin install does not work, because this is an issue of AE CS5.
Apparently, you cannot use the ‘Mocha Shape’ plug-in on a trial version of AE CS5.
Regarding the export mattes - for some reason it works now.
PS - Can I use the Mocha For AE 2.5 with a full licensed version of CS3 ?

The licence for the shape plugin should be contained within the trial licence of pro: It’s one licence file so there’s no need to get another licence.
You can download the x86 version of shape and it will still work on the 64 bit platform.
