Help! Tracking a shot on a boat

Hi, I got that tricky shot on a boat with a vertical pan. Thats the first frame:

And that the last one with the text that I want to put in:

It’s really hard for me because I track the buildings and the trees on background but in the first part the sea is moving to fast and I don’t know what I can do for a good track…

From this link it’s possible to download the video (30mb, 12s., 720P 25fps, mpeg2):

Please, someone help me and tell me how to do it!

Thank you, Stussi

Hi there,
Sorry for the delayed reply, I didn’t save the file, so I am sorry to say I can’t help you on this one.
I do remember that the track was not perfect and would need to be manually edited no matter what. Tracking moving objects with detail such as water is always very difficult and often the compositor has to do a fair amount of manual tweaking to really nail these type of shots.
Good luck,
Ross

I was able to quickly get a pretty decent track that could be finessed.

  1. I started from the end of the shot, tracking backwards. I created a shape around the trees and wall in the center. Also: I selected track position, scale, rotation in track tab.

  2. Once the layer starts to go offscreen when you track backwards. Stop the track. Then I used the “add contour to layer” button and made a small additional shape around the reflection and that little object/bird floating on the water. In other words looked for constant areas that weren’t moving independently.

  3. Last position surface. In a few minutes it was not perfect but very close.

Hope this helps,
Ross

Hi, thanks for your help, I try to use the reflection and the little bird for tracking but the result is not acceptable… I know that I ask you too much but can you send me the project you made please? I send you also a PM…thanks!
