Optics crashes when opening photo

optics crashes when trying to open tiff, psd, or jpeg in photoshop, lightroom and standalone. It work in previous 5 year old computer but transferred license to new computer doesn’t work

Can you make sure you are running the most recent graphics driver from nVidia? If that does solve the issue, can you send me one of your images so I can test on my machine?

i got it to work with disabling graphics under preferences then restarting thanks

When you disable the GPU rendering, you will not have GPU acceleration and the effects will be slower to edit and render. If you upgrade to the most recent driver for your graphics card and it starts working with GPU Rendering enabled, that is fastest way to run. If it still doesn’t work, then yes, you would have to run with GPU Rendering disabled.

I have a similar problem, Windows 10 AMD 5900x cpu 128Gb
opening any image in any orientation standalone or in PS plug-in crashes Optics 2022 just after the image is loaded.
GPU setting makes no difference and the original Optics still works without issue
Have logged a ticket ref:_00D2083I._5004G2RLkXl but have had no sensible response from your support team

Same thing happening to me. Latest driver Nvidia 3090. Latest Optics version 2.1.
I can open 3 or 4 images and then it starts crashing.I have to restart Photoshop. Disabling GPU inside Optics makes no difference. The program still crashes opening an image.

Sorry to hear you are having issues? Do you have the same issue if you open the same images in the standalone application?

Can you please try the following?

  • Launch Optics and select File > Preferences
  • Disable Live Thumbnails
  • Restart Optics

Can you open an image now? If so, select the Light tab and select S_Glint. Does Optics crash?

plug in or stand alone makes no difference

disabled live thumbnails, and can now open images without a crash
Selected S_Glint and it renders as it should without crashing

Can you tell me more about your hardware? Graphics card, exact CPU type, number of processors etc?

Yes. Disabling Live thumbnails did the trick. No more crashes. Thank you. I will leave it off until the problem is fixed.

This issues does not occur on our machines, but we will continue to investigate.

@mastix Can you provide your hardware specs as well?

Just been informed case 00210452 is closed as resolved, which it is not - a work around has been provided, not a resolution

The workaround will have to do for now until we can reproduce. If this can’t be solved, the Live Thumbnails will be removed as it is not a critical feature.

As a company, we typically “close” the customer technical support cases that have workarounds with no clear fix in the imminent feature. Don’t worry, this does not mean the issue is dropped… it means to the support team that the customer can continue working and they can move on to other critical cases. Hope this helps clarify.

I personally applaud Marco and the Optics dev team for providing really amazing support on this forum.

Marco responded much more quickly than your other support staff, and only when the issue was raised on the forum, not in response to the ticket that was raised quite some time before
