PI Performance Problems when applying to AE

Heya,

i am using the plugin version of Particle Illusion and i am running into a heavy performance problems when applying the PI effect to After Effects

Applying an PI effect to After Effects really slows down AE that much that it’s almost impossible to work with. Even at below 1k project settings and quarter viewport settings. Is that normal?
Working with pre-rendered videofiles is np tho and working inside the PI workspace is very fast.

Using a decent machine. I7-12700K with a RTX 3090 (Studio Drivers) and 64GB RAM

Jelly Fish Default, AE Project seetings: 1920x1080, 24fps, 14 seconds, Res downsample factor full, takes over 10min to cash in on the AE timeline.

Jelly Fish Default, AE Project seetings: 960x720, 24fps, 14 seconds, Res downsample factor quarter, takes over 5min to cash in on the AE timeline.

Any clues what is causing such a lag?

Attaching the AE project here.

I tried your project, and it seems normal to me, not slow at all.

Take a look at Task Manager (Win) or Activity Monitor (Mac) and see what’s going on with PI. Is it using a crazy amount of memory? Do you have AE set to use almost all of your RAM (PI needs some as it’s a separate application)?

These are my AE memory settings on Mac:

The PI workspace works perfectly fine and super fast. The lag begins when applying from PI to AE. Also, after applying, the PI process disappears from the task manager. AE is looking normal in the task manger but the timeline chaching is super slow (beyond 10 mins for 14 secs footage.) maybe it has something to do with the disc cache folder settings. Gonna read in into that.

Are you on the latest version of PI (2023 v16.0.3)?

Yes sir. V16_0_3 it is. Latest Nvidia Studio Driver and AE is up to date also.
