Remove over sharpen halo

Is there a way to remove over sharpen halo from DV video?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

You could try the BCC DV Fixer filter - without working with the footage myself I’m not 100% sure that it’ll remove that halo’ing but it’s worth a shot.

The filter was designed to smooth out aliasing artifacts that are typically associated with poor quality DV video but it’s worth checking to see if it will improve the DV shots that you are working with.

Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Peter: The DV filter doesn’t do it. I used to have success using gaussian blur, but that doesn’t do it since I installed bcc23. Here’s a link to a video on the subject using after effects. Given that there are so many effects and settings in bcc, I’m hoping that you or your team has one to solve the problem as After Effects does. Thanks! Steve

Hi Steve,

If you would like to send me a few sample shots I’ll work with them to see if I can arrive at an acceptable solution with the filters that we currently have in Continuum. And if I can’t find a reasonable solution in the current filter set, I can file a feature request with engineering for a new filter in a future version of Continuum.

Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Peter:
It looks like it may be ghosting/halo. I’d imagine it would take some kind of a mask and brightness filter to minimize it. I’s very visible across the top of this airplane in black, and white above the orange cowling. The video was shot in 60i DV, then deinterlaced and up scaled to 1440x1080, 60p.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for sharing this clip with me - I worked with it in an effort to find a solution to the haloing artifact removal but alas, I was unsuccessful. I’ll add this to our future dev wish list for new image restoration solutions.

Cheers,
Peter.

Thanks! Steve
