Yes, this is possible with mocha roto and color correction in AE, and any blemishes can be removed with the remove tool. We have a long tutorial on beauty work here: http://www.imagineersystems.com/event/training-webinar-mocha-for-beauty-work/

Is this a League of Legends Cosplay?

Cheers,

Mary

yes its a league of legends cosplay!

ok thank you! i will check the video after work.

also do you know if mocha pro can help with creating these shapes with clothing and hair?

2.) https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/0a/63/b3/0a63b3a1b2712bd9a5cc8da59873f2c2.jpg

i would want to be cable to control shapes/movement/symmetry. would it have to be 3d models tracked? or maybe we can roto each piece (hair/limb) from the actual footage?

Ah, yeah, I thought that was Jinx.

If you want a 2D hair look like that, you’re going to have to use roto shapes. I’d track the head and hair and link more precise anime style shapes to them.

You can fill in some of those shapes with hair “patches” if you need to build it out. Potentially you can make them inserts in the remove tool, or just use corner pins and roto in AE.

Good luck! Looks like a fun project. If you have any more questions, let me know.
Mary

maryp i didn’t know you play league of legends!!!

1.) for using roto shapes on hair, the little hair strands might not be included when doing that huh? maybe use roto shapes for bigger hair shapes and add the single strands for detailed shots or something?

2.) maybe i’d have to shoot the person with short hair + track markers , then add the roto shapes in afterwards?

3.) hair patches meaning what i said in #1 & #2? and layer it on top of each other?

4.) inserts in remove tool/corner pin+roto in AE = same as #1 & #2?

5.) #1-#4 is for 2d hair. but for 3d camera moves, we probably have to 3d the hair right?

I only play occasionally but I know it.

Yes

No, don't do that, you'll have markers to remove. The texture should be enough.

Yes

Inserts are not the same as corner pins, but yes, both can work the same. You can't use a corner pin on a masked layer, you have to take your corner pin and mask it with a luma matte or something. :)

Yes. There's only so far you can push 2D shapes. But you can cheat a lot with warpers.

in that video tutorial for opens splines beauty work. you talked about people usually using it to add hair.

do you have any sample videos of that? of other people’s work too?

I do not, sorry. But all you need to do to do that is add a stroke to the spline in your compositing program of choice. You can only hook open splines up to tracks though, they have no matte to track with.
